ABOUT THE PROJECT
Heating and cooling combined represent 50% of the total energy consumed by end users, and global demand is expected to triple by 2050. However, conventional systems, which have changed little in over 100 years, display low energy efficiency and rely on highly polluting refrigerant gases.
Barocal is pioneering a new class of solid refrigerants with zero global warming potential. These materials, discovered after 15 years of research at the University of Cambridge, deliver 2-3 times greater energy efficiency than conventional systems, significantly reducing both operational costs and carbon emissions. Unlike traditional refrigerants, Barocal’s solid-state technology eliminates the need for harmful gases, providing a sustainable and scalable solution to the world’s heating and cooling needs.
Barocal’s advanced cooling systems have the potential to reduce emissions by up to 75%, making them a critical tool in the fight against climate change. With their quiet operation, compliance with existing refrigerant regulations, and use of non-toxic, abundant materials, Barocal’s technology is poised to transform the way we cool and heat our economy, helping the world achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
