ABOUT THE PROJECT
Fertilizer underpins global food production and is often a farmer’s largest operating cost, yet its composition has seen limited innovation in past decades. While synthetic fertilizers support life for half the world’s population, existing forms are extremely inefficient at delivering nutrition to plants. When conventional fertilizers are applied, the vast majority of the material is never absorbed by crops and is instead lost to the environment.
Prospect Growth manufactures nanofertilizers that boost crop yields, decrease costly nutrient inputs, and minimize environmental losses. While over ten years of research have shown that nanofertilizers more effectively supply nutrition to plants than conventional fertilizers do, high manufacturing costs have prohibited the use of these advanced materials. Prospect Growth has developed a new method for the scalable production of nanofertilizers at low cost using food-safe reagents.
Nanofertilizers offer a promising solution to mitigate the climate impacts of crop production, which currently accounts for over eight gigatons of CO₂ annually. By adopting these advanced fertilizers, farmers can continue to be stewards of their land while simultaneously boosting their operation’s profitability.
