ABOUT THE PROJECT
Carbon dioxide removal (CDR) efforts are not scaling quickly enough to meet global climate targets, with limitations to both engineered and nature-based solutions. The ocean, as the Earth’s largest carbon sink, holds immense potential for CDR, yet harnessing this potential remains complex due to environmental and monitoring challenges.
Inspired by marine research equipment, Sinkco Labs has developed an efficient, and safe delivery system for micro-injecting organic carbon into marine sediments, bypassing the complexities associated with the water column. Under specific conditions, these sediments undergo compaction, a natural phenomenon that prevents microbial movement within the matrix, thus preserving the organic carbon and ensuring its permanent, environmentally safe storage. This process effectively replicates the preservation of million-year-old organic matter found deep in the seabed.
By unlocking the vast potential of marine sediments, which cover 70% of the planet’s surface, Sinkco Labs’ innovative process can be rapidly deployed and scaled globally, offering a cost-effective solution for large-scale carbon removal.
