ABOUT THE PROJECT

Batteries are transforming our renewable energy economy. Lithium-ion has scaled production, but remains constrained by capital intensity, long-duration performance, mineral supply, and safety. New battery technologies that avoid these issues and that can be deployed quickly and efficiently are necessary.

Standard Potential’s sodium-ion battery innovation eliminates critical bottlenecks in existing battery manufacturing infrastructure, allowing energy storage to be deployed with a fraction of the capital cost and plant footprint of today’s gigafactories, while also using earth abundant minerals. The resulting sodium-ion systems could set new standards in performance, cost, and safety while bridging terawatt hour unit operation compatibility with terawatt hour sustainable inputs.
