Kok Giap HAW
Kok Giap joins Breakthrough Energy’s Innovator Fellows program from CRecTech in Singapore. Kok Giap is a material scientist with more than 15 years of experience developing and researching novel catalytic materials in the field of energy and sustainable applications. As the Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Kok Giap is responsible for developing the scale-up protocol, optimizing the catalysts design from iterative reaction testing and intellectual property management, strategy and planning.
CRecTech has developed a novel catalytic process that simplifies current bio-methanol production, significantly lowering carbon footprint and production costs, making renewable methanol fuel more affordable for end consumers. Through the Fellows program, CRecTech will advance their technology readiness level, moving closer to demonstrating their solution and establishing a suitable supply value chain to deploy their renewable bio-methanol technology.
Kok Giap is an audiophile, he enjoys listening to his favorite music with his HD650 headset during his leisure time. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Chemistry and Master of Science in Chemistry from University of Technology Malaysia. He then received his PhD degree in Chemistry from University of Caen Normandy in France. After graduating, Kok Giap received a number of research fellowships around the world, providing him the support and exposure to green and sustainable energy development.

Respect yourself and others will respect you.
Who has had the greatest impact on your career path?
My high school chemistry teacher, her chemistry class was so interesting and inspiring that chemistry has become my favorite subject since then.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
A medical doctor, they are heroes that sacrifice their lives to save people from their illness.
