Pete Christnensen
Pete Christensen joins the Breakthrough Energy Fellows program from Loamist in San Diego. Pete leads Loamist’s business development and data science efforts. He brings to the Loamist team his background in chemistry, materials science, and circular economy supply-chain development.
Loamist is developing an innovative platform that integrates supply-chain software with a physical network for aggregating and commoditizing biomass feedstocks. The Loamist platform simplifies the sourcing process by providing reliable, consistent, and auditable biomass supply at any scale, ensuring that companies of all sizes can transition to low-carbon feedstocks more smoothly and sustainably. Through the Fellows program Loamist will pilot the deployment of this platform, validating a path to scale.
Pete is passionate about the intersection of technology, design, and sustainability. When he is not working on Loamist, he is spending time with his family, at the beach, or mountain biking. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, a Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry from the University of British Columbia, held a post doctoral fellowship at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, and was awarded a 2021 Activate Fellowship.

Time is the true currency. Spend your time doing good things with good people. Enjoy the ride.
Who has had the greatest impact on your career path?
My parents have always inspired and supported me to pursue my passion for science. On a professional level, my undergraduate Organic Chemistry professor Dr. Brant Kedrowski helped me explore my curiosities for science by letting me work in his lab. Without this hands-on experience, I would not have realized my passion for scientific research and I would not be doing what I am today.
What is the most impactful book that you have read?
The Fountainhead, Ayn Rand.
What beliefs drive you?
Integrity, merit, and creative pursuit.
