SCOTT BLANCHET
Scott joins the Business Fellows program from the Boston area. Scott’s work focuses on increasing the availability and reducing the cost of clean hydrogen. He brings more than 25 years of experience overseeing the development and commercialization of groundbreaking products from technologies across the hydrogen and fuel cell value chain. As a Fellow, Scott will work with the EvolOH (formerly Origen Hydrogen) team to bring game-changing electrolysis technology out of the lab and into the market.
Prior joining the Breakthrough Energy Fellows program, Scott worked as chief technology officer for Nuvera Fuel Cells and held prior positions with FuelCell Energy and General Motors, working to drive innovative technologies from the lab to the real world in service of a cleaner and greener environment. Over the course of his career, he has been granted more than 265 patents worldwide related to hydrogen, fuel cells, and vehicle emissions technologies, including 53 in the U.S. related to clean energy technologies.
A longtime resident of Massachusetts, Scott resides in Chelmsford, Mass. with his wife and family. In his free time, Scott enjoys carpentry and practicing mindfulness. He received a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from University of Miami (Fla.) and a Master of Science in mechanical engineering from Stanford University.
Q&A
What inspired you to go into this field?
I come from a technologically oriented family and have always been inclined and encouraged to pursue STEM-related activities inside and outside of school. I was lucky to have intersected with a few key mentors in high school, undergraduate, and graduate school who I credit with helping build my confidence and set me on the path for a successful engineering career. I am thrilled for this opportunity to pay that luck forward.
If you were speaking to a prospective Business Fellow applicant, why should they apply?
This program is truly visionary in its effort to entice seasoned business leaders to leave the perceived security of their day jobs and make a real mark on the world and on the next generation. Go big or go home.
What is the best piece of advice you have been given?
Never take criticism from someone you would not take advice from.
