Fourth Power
Company Description
The electricity grid will be undergoing a major transformation over the next decade, as electricity demand grows significantly and utilities are faced with the challenges of keeping the lights on, costs affordable and providing zero-carbon power. Fourth Power has developed a utility-scale thermal battery technology that stores renewable energy as heat for short and long durations (5-500 hours) and dispatches it as electricity to the grid in seconds.
Backed by more than a decade of R&D the labs of MIT and Georgia Tech, Fourth Power’s record-breaking thermal technology and thermophotovoltaic (TPV) solar cells turn light from heated carbon blocks into electricity. The extremely high temperatures of our system maximize efficiency, and our simple, low-cost and readily available supply chain make our technology one of the lowest-cost options for grid decarbonization. Furthermore, Fourth Power’s flexible, modular design means our utility customers can add additional storage to a battery over time at a fraction of the original install cost, making our battery uniquely suited to scale alongside renewable penetration.
Our mission is to make renewables as reliable and dispatchable as fossil — and at lower cost. Fourth Power: Energy Storage that Grows with the Grid.
