Our Team Dan Livengood Research Scientist, Breakthrough Energy Sciences

Dan is a Research Scientist on the Breakthrough Energy Sciences team, primarily focused on designing scenarios for the team’s research studies and communicating the results once the studies have been completed.

Dan began working in the clean energy space in 2007 as part of his Ph.D. program at MIT on integrating flexible residential demand for balancing weather-dependent renewable energy. His research led him to a project with the demand response company EnerNOC and later to two startup companies exploring home energy management systems. After a 5-year adventure of exploring systems integration challenges in the healthcare industry, he was excited to return to clean energy in 2018 as part of the team that has evolved into Breakthrough Energy Sciences.

Dan holds a Ph.D. from MIT and B.S./M.S. degrees from Washington University in St. Louis. Dan lives in Seattle with his wife Brittany where they enjoy exploring the many hiking opportunities around the area and have recently picked up an interest in identifying the birds they see while out on the trails.
