Lucas joined Breakthrough Energy in 2020, bringing two decades’ experience helping organizations find their voice and engage people in dynamic ways. His focus at Breakthrough Energy is on telling our story and helping people connect to our vision and work, whether they are deep in the science or new to these issues.
Prior to joining the team at BE, Lucas spent years doing creative work in the progressive political space. He has partnered with organizations like the National Domestic Workers Alliance, Environmental Defense Fund, Vital Voices, March For Our Lives, and the DCCC, where he led their rebrand in advance of the successful 2018 midterms. He spent four years as Creative Director at public engagement firm 270 Strategies, guiding large and small nonprofits and companies on their web, design, and brand work.
Lucas cut his teeth on Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, where he served as the Ohio Director of New Media. In 2009, he joined the Organizing for America team at the Democratic National Committee as Creative Director, leading the overhaul of the Democrats’ brand and the creative work for OFA and the DNC during the fight for health reform and the 2010 midterms. He went on to serve as Digital Director of the Democratic National Committee.
Lucas is a proud native and resident of Washington DC, where he lives with his wife Rachel and their two boisterous, (mostly) joyful sons, Sam and Miles. He has traveled to 49 states and all seven continents. He delights in Texas barbecue, swimmin’ holes, and baking cakes. Someday he’ll make it to North Dakota.
