Megan Wenrich joins Breakthrough Energy as Vice President of Development, with a focus on accelerating funding for the transition to a clean energy future.
Megan is a committed climate and sustainability executive with a 20-year track record of raising capital, launching new initiatives, and building vibrant communities of high achievers striving to change the world. She has planned and led fundraising efforts ranging from $4 million to $12 billion working extensively with philanthropists, investors, and boards of directors. Most recently she led a multi-year change effort at The Nature Conservancy to increase fundraising results from $800 million per year to $1.3 billion per year. She drove innovation across the enterprise and was responsible for improving the results and effectiveness of TNC’s decentralized team of 800 fundraisers who operate in 79 countries and all 50 states. Megan also helped build TNC’s climate tech co-investment program within their Office of Investments, which manages a $4 billion endowment and long-term portfolio.
Before TNC, she held leadership positions at a philanthropic consulting firm and several environmental organizations. She started her career lobbying for changes to fiscal policy to promote renewable energy after a pivotal experience studying at a remote field station in Kenya.
She is a proud graduate of a women’s college, Hollins University, where she double majored in Biology & Environmental Studies. She also has a Masters in Environmental Law & Policy from Vermont Law School, and an MBA from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management.
Megan is a lifelong competitive rower and finds respite in long walks in the woods, reading, and the occasional jigsaw puzzle. She is a native of Florida, where she lives with her husband Michael, and their daughters Alice and Eloise.
