Nick Masson is Lead Engineer on the Contrails team. He is responsible for the development and evolution of the team’s software services, system architecture, and product go-to-market readiness.

Prior to joining Breakthrough Energy, Nick held the position of CTO at Pngme, where he led a team in developing new credit scoring technology, with the aim of opening the capital market to individuals in sub-Saharan Africa who are “credit invisible” to traditional bureaus. Before Pngme, Nick contributed as a Staff engineer at WeWork and other early-stage companies. He also co-founded a data platform company, driving development from time zero thru its merger and acquisition.

Nick holds a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder, with a focus in computational fluid dynamics and air quality. He currently lives in Boulder with his wife and son. When not in the office, he is often pushing his boundaries of creative expression in the wood shop, kitchen, library, and darkroom, or finding his adventure in the mountains on bike, ski or rope.
