Tom joined Breakthrough Energy in January 2022 as Private Sector Engagement Manager.
Tom has worked in energy policy for the past eight years in both the public and private sectors, always with a mission to build successful partnerships that accelerate clean energy innovation development and deployment. Prior to joining Breakthrough Energy, he worked for the Chilean Ministry of Energy leading on international engagement and specifically managing the global coordination for Chile’s green hydrogen strategy development and implementation. Working across a network of bilateral and multilateral relationships, he was able to design a strategy that would attract the investment, innovation, and expertise needed to catalyze the industry domestically and deliver Chile’s ambitions on green hydrogen exportation.
Tom continues this work at BE, working within the Mission Innovation Secretariat to create stronger and more effective private sector engagement with MI’s 24 member countries helping to drive innovation in the breakthrough clean energy technologies that will unlock net-zero ambitions.
He has also lived and worked in New York, where he led on commercial solar project development and managing a multimillion-dollar pipeline of projects in multiple states across the US. In this role he was also responsible for analyzing the numerous policy frameworks across the US energy regulatory system to build a business case for future solar projects.
Tom holds a Master’s Degree in energy policy from Columbia University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in international relations from the University of New South Wales. As an Australian native now living in London, and a tragic surfer, Tom spends his spare time braving Europe’s freezing waters in search of waves as well as sampling the various pubs and cafes around his new home.
