Tyson is a Director on the Partnerships team at Breakthrough Energy. His responsibilities include structuring and maintaining partnerships across the Breakthrough Energy platform. Tyson joined Breakthrough Energy Catalyst in April 2021 with responsibilities for the project finance capabilities of the Catalyst program. In collaboration with the Catalyst team, Tyson helps develop the strategy. In addition, he works closely with corporate, government, and finance partners to fund the critical technologies we need to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.
Prior to Breakthrough Energy, Tyson worked for The Engine, where he was the Vice President of Capital Markets, working closely with The Engine’s portfolio companies on their unique capital needs. He sourced and engaged capital providers and institutions to help solve the capital elements of first-of-kind commercialization challenges. Prior to The Engine, Tyson spent 15 years on Wall Street between Goldman, Sachs & Co., and Barclays working with some of the world’s largest institutional investors and corporations in both the US and Europe.
Tyson graduated from Princeton University with an AB in Politics, where he focused on the geopolitical implications of fossil fuel dependence and was the Captain of the Heavyweight Men’s Crew Team. He also represented Canada at the 2000 World Rowing Championships. Originally from Toronto, Canada, Tyson and his wife, Alex, and their two boys, Hudson and Bond, live in Boston, Massachusetts. Together, they enjoy hockey, traveling, skiing, the company of family and friends, and the great outdoors.
