At Breakthrough Energy (BE), safeguarding our community from online scams, impersonation attempts, and malicious activities is a top priority. Recently, we have observed an increase in fraudulent accounts impersonating BE staff on social media platforms, as well as emerging threats involving artificial intelligence (AI)-generated content. These scams may include requests for money, personal information, proprietary information, or even fabricated videos or voice recordings made to appear as though they are from BE team members.
Please note that BE and our team members will never ask for money, sensitive personal details, or proprietary information through social media platforms (ex: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Signal, Telegram, WhatsApp, Bluesky or X (formerly Twitter).
How to Protect Yourself
Things to Look For:
- Requests for money or financial transactions.
- Unsolicited outreach asking for personal information.
- Profiles that seem suspicious or unverified.
- AI-generated deepfake content, such as videos or voice recordings that mimic real people but contain subtle inconsistencies (e.g., unusual voice patterns, odd facial movements, or mismatched lip-syncing).
How You Can Help:
1. Report suspicious accounts and content directly to the social media platform.
- Report on Bluesky
- Report on Facebook
- Report on Instagram
- Report on LinkedIn
- Report on Signal
- Report on Telegram
- Report on WhatsApp
- Report on X
2. Notify BE at [email protected] so we can investigate further.
