Commonwealth Fusion Systems
Company Description
Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) is the world’s largest fusion energy company. Founded in 2018, CFS spun out of MIT’s Plasma Science and Fusion Center to combine decades of fusion research with the innovation and speed of the private sector to deliver commercial fusion energy at scale. CFS and MIT collaborated on new, groundbreaking high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet technology that enable compact fusion power plants to be constructed faster and at lower cost. CFS is currently building the world’s first commercially relevant, net energy fusion demonstration device, SPARC, paving the way to the first fusion power plant to produce power on the grid, named ARC. CFS is rapidly bringing together the elements needed to build a robust fusion energy ecosystem with fusion squarely at the heart of the energy transition. For more information, check out cfs.energy.
