Lincore
Company Description
Access to critical materials such as lithium, nickel, cobalt, and copper are essential for our energy transition journey. Recovering these materials from spent batteries can reduce our reliance on extractive mining. Existing methods are often costly, produce significant waste, and are unable to handle all Li-ion battery chemistries.
Lincore is developing a closed-loop, electro-metallurgical refining process to extract critical materials such as lithium, nickel, cobalt and manganese from end-of-life batteries and battery manufacturing scrap. Their unique approach can process all Li-ion battery chemistries, including LFP, in the same system. Consuming only water and electricity, the Licore process turns battery waste into valuable battery precursors while producing hydrogen as a secondary product.
Lincore’s universal refining solution has the potential to cut the capital cost and processing costs for battery manufacturers and recyclers by up to 50% compared to traditional methods. Their technology can create circular supply chains locally, eliminating the need to export spent materials for refining. Replacing mined materials with recycled materials for battery manufacturing also offers a significant reduction in carbon emissions.
